Curriculum for Excellence

Why Musical School?

Musical School is an award-winning primary music education programme housed within Charanga’s configurable music teaching and learning platform. Follow a Scheme or access over 25,000 Charanga resources, creative tools, and more to deliver high-quality curriculum music in your school.

The program offers the flexibility to match your teaching style and timetable. Its planning support is comprehensive, yet uncomplicated. Whether you're new to teaching, just getting started with Charanga, or looking to enrich your curriculum, there's something for everyone.

Some fantastic materials from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, a dedicated area for Scottish music, song and video projects, and 21 song-based units in the Freestyle Library all allow you to broaden the range of material you use in your teaching. You can mix and match anything with your own uploaded materials, ready to share with your students.

More and more teachers are using Charanga’s Scheme-builder tool to create a bespoke curriculum for their school. Create a unique pathway for your school by combining Charanga resources with your own favourite teaching resources. Mix and match content from Charanga’s Schemes, Freestyle resources, song bank and instrumental courses.

Charanga’s approach to music education

Charanga’s Schemes reflect a considered, evidence-informed approach to music education.

their new Creative Music Scheme is fast becoming the most popular. Watch the video below for an overview of the curriculum.

Lessons include structured progression, building listening skills, vocal and instrumental technique, improvisation, and composition, with differentiation guidance built in for less confident learners and more advanced pupils.

Unlike conventional schemes, Charanga’s industry-leading digital tools are built into every lesson to amplify every child's creative voice. Resources support both subject knowledge and confidence in the classroom.

What teachers say

Musical School has given my staff the confidence and the resources to deliver exciting music lessons. The sessions are quick and easy to organise and can successfully be taught by non-music specialists. The children clearly enjoy the dynamic, fun and stimulating sessions, and our teachers are learning valuable new skills.
